How to fix your soul ...
If you were an electrician .. . .
Well well well .. we will discuss the most simple utility any electrician should be perfect at .. you might be interested to become an electrical trade and want to learn all the details of the job, then I would suggest that you should either consult a trade school or refer to better and more accredited centers/websites/weblogs ... here in this weblog we just teach you how to turn a light on .. that’s all .. simple but at the same time very important.
I did my best to ignore the introductory paragraph why we basically need to have light, but the more I tried, the less I succeeded… I am from the old school which believes in creating the awareness about the necessity of an action to have the commitment for the hardships and consequences of the deed .. concisely; we need light to see the things better at the edge of sunset and be able to find our way in the middle of the night (night starts in Iran one hour earlier this year as we are wealthy enough – al’hamdolellah – to disregard summer saving time). I hope that I have made myself clear as why we technicians should know how to install a very simple lighting system.
Since I have written lengthily about the intro, I should now save some time by writing shorter about the elements and process. Wire, switch, and let me see yes; lamp is all you need to make illumination. Word of advice: Make sure you are not misreading illumination for enlightenment. You may have a city illuminated but not enlightened yet .. why? because you were to busy with the lamps (how many lamps a city needs?) that you never had a chance to sit for a while and enjoy seeing things better at night.
So remember wire, switch and lamp are the three major constituents of your lighting system .. but wait a second.. I forgot something .. yeah source of power. this one is so obvious that some time we take it for granted, without source of energy all the wires and switches and lamps are useless. Here I should make a brave confession: I was not into that really .. and I will suggest you young electricians not to waste your valuable time and brain to find the truth and reality of the source of energy. Sometimes in our classes once questioned about the nature of the energy; we simple response that the questioned area is the subject we electricians don’t care about. What we all care about is to deliver light to the people houses.
Once you have all the elements, then you should remember that the functionality of the system is depending on the workability of each of the three said components. Without one the whole system flops.
Observations of the past experiences depicts that we better connect these three serially. You may want to have your own experimental setups, but I cannot guarantee if they work and even if they do, whether they are safe or not. We strongly advise that you read the disclaimer of this manual before taking any deviational steps.
The wires should be “conductor” otherwise the light will not turn on. Please don’t expect a wooden stick or plastic rod to serve the same purpose.
Switch should be always on at night; unless you really are heading for bed. Sleep is reported to be sound in the absence of any source of light. New researches have found some exceptional cases though.
If you are contracting the lighting system, please bear in mind that lamps are consumables so they should be provided by the users. No matter how many lamps you replace, the users won’t be happy with the level and color of illumination unless they themselves provide the lamps. Cleaning and maintenance of the lamp should be also foreseen in the contract. Electricians are not insured for the claims based on such shortcomings.
Before leaving the site, shake hand with the user and verify that everything is in order. As a mentor of many electricians with several years of teaching experience; I would recommend that you in few words explain to the user that the light may black out for the reasons beyond your control. The fact that the light was on for this moment doest not provide the grounds that it will be on the second later.
A lamp needs the source of energy every moment, as soon as the source is low or gone the light will faint and or shutdown.
